The Liebster Award

Liebster Award

I would like to thank Hardly Bored for awarding me with the Liebster Award. I feel priviliged and have accepted this award. The Liebster award is an award that was reputedly started in Germany in order to give smaller bloggers recognition for their hard work. You receive this award from a fellow blogger that feels your blog is both worthy & important to them.

Since I have accepted this award, I must answer the ten questions posed to me by Hardly Bored and I must also nominate 5 fellow bloggers who I also feel are worthy of this award. I have listed my nominees at the bottom.

1. How old where you when you discovered you loved to write?

I started writing short stories in my teen years. I loved the freedom to be able to express things on paper. I think I got this from my mother, who also liked to write whimsical poems and rhymes. Now with kids of my own, these stories basically write themselves since raising two ASD boys can yield many humorous and challenging moments.

2. Do you have any regrets in your life thus far?

Who doesn't? I have so many things I want to accomplish in life, with so little time. However, after losing my mother to colon cancer 2 years ago, I promised myself to not live with regret, to always try to look ahead and make the most of my days.

3. Do you still live in the same area where you were born?

No. I was born if Fairfax, Virginia. I now live in Minnesota, where my husband is from.

4. What is your funniest kid story?

How I earned one of my nicknames - "Repus". I had a T-shirt that read "Super Girl". I asked my mother one day what R-E-P-U-S spelled since I was reading it backwards. Needless to say, this has been my nickname even into adulthood!

5. Who is your biggest inspiration in life and why?

It is really hard to choose just one person. I feel that any person, family or friend, have contributed to the person I am today in one way or the other. However, after having to boys with autism, I'd have to say the person who inspires me the most is Temple Grandin for her advocacy for individuals with autism.

6. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?

Lasagna!

7. Are you an outdoorsy kind of person? Why or why not?

I love the outdoors, just not in the winter time. I love the piece and quiet, and could probably sit in the warm sun all day if I could choose to do so. I love fishing and gardening.

8. Is being a parent everything you thought it would be when you were younger?

Not by a long shot. Everyone always dreams of what their kids will be like. I was devastated when we recieved an autism dx on our youngest. I felt the dreams I had and the person I thought he would be, were completely erased. To the contrary today, I can say that it has been so much more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.

9. As a child what was your ultimate dream for yourself when you grew up?

I wanted to be an attorney. I guess I am as close as I can be by learning about special education law, and the like. Having to advocate for your children requires that you have knowledge of both their rights and your rights as a parent.

10. What do you want people to know about you?

I love meeting new people. I guess, I have always been a people-person, but still cherish my alone time. I love to do crafting (knitting, sewing, woodwork). I am fluent in 2 languages, English and Norwegian. One thing that might surprise people is I am a full-blown Heavy Metal fan. I still love my metal from the hair band days. Luckily, this has rubbed off on my oldest too. I also have many tattoos (no piercings, except for ears). I am not much of a TV person, but my favorite series that I follow faithfully, is Supernatural. I mean just look at those guys - that makes it worth watching alone ;) I am also a forensic buff.

Because each one of you are an inspiration and have a positive influence in my life, my nominations for the Liebster Award, should you choose to accept it. (In no particular order) are:

Slap aka Strong Loving Autism Parents

High functioning autistic children

Life on Monz

Autism the real life family shenanigans
